The authors of World of Tanks have announced the creation of a new division of the company – WG Cells, which will develop and publish mobile games.
The catalyst for the emergence of such an initiative was the success of the game World of Tanks Blitz, whose total downloads have now crossed the 35 million mark, according to an official press release.
The head office of the new company is located in Cyprus. Already, WG Cells also includes two development studios – in Seattle and Kiev. The company was headed by Marat Karpenko, who has been working in Wargaming since 2007, and David Bluhm, former CEO of DropForge Games. The latter, by the way, just became the Seattle studio WG Cells. Her latest project, Loot & Legends, is now part of the Wargaming portfolio.
WG Cells will also release a third-person shooter Fantastic Plastic Squad, previously announced for iOS, Android and Apple TV by Studio Pound Sand, headed by Greg Goodrich, who was responsible for projects such as Medal of Honor, World in Conflict, Spyro the Dragon and more.
Another game of the mobile division of Wargaming will be Smash Squad, a role-playing game whose combat system will be built on realistic physics (in a nutshell, this is another ideological heir of Monster Strike – a buttler with a billiard-fighting game).
