Hyper-casual publisher Voodoo has decided to make major changes regarding the testing of game prototypes. Now the publisher is ready to pre-evaluate the potential not only on iOS, but also on Android. He also published his new KPIs.
Knock Balls from Voodoo
This statement was made by Loic Moisan, Voodoo Publishing Operations Manager.
According to him, the company has been exclusively testing iOS builds for many years. However, this year the French publisher launched tests for Android prototypes as well.
Voodoo made this decision after a traditional survey of partner studios. As Moisan explains, the proposal to add another type of testing sounded so often that the company simply could not ignore it.
Starting in July 2020, developers who collaborate with Voodoo can send a prototype of their Android game for testing directly from the panel for publication.
Over the past few months, the publisher has managed to test several projects on Android. At the same time, Voodoo noted that these tests turned out to be cheaper and more informative compared to testing iOS applications.
Voodoo also told what KPIs Android games should meet in order to qualify for a contract with a publisher:
- CPI equal to $0.1 (for comparison, the CPI for iOS games should be equal to $0.2);
- retention of D1 at 38% (for iOS games — 45%);
- retention of D7 at the level of 8% (for iOS games — 13%).
The launch of the initiative may be related to Apple‘s plans to introduce a new IDFA policy. After its launch, applications will be required to request permission from the user to access advertising platforms to personal data. All this will significantly complicate the effective testing of games made on iOS.
