The Unity game engine was actively used by the team of director Jon Favreau during the filming of the latest Disney blockbuster about Mowgli.
According to ICG Magazine, with its help, low-poly versions of scenes were recreated, moving through which Favreau made a decision about filming using a gamepad.
The film’s cameraman Bill Pope also used Unity in his work on The Jungle Book. In particular, thanks to one of the plug-ins developed for the engine, the operator could work in real time with the lighting in the picture.
It is clear that all this is commonplace for game developers. But the use of game functionality for the cinematograph is still a novelty. The spread of such practices is likely to seriously increase the demand for Unity professionals in the market.
