Yesterday, October 8, Unity announced in its official blog that it had begun the process of suspending the development and support of the Unity Web Player plugin.

Unity в скором времени перестанет поддерживать Unity Web Player

The company explains its decision by the refusal of most browser developers to support NPAPI plugins.

  • On September 1 of this year, Google Chrome completely refused to use extensions built on the basis of the NPAPI system.
  • In Edge, which replaced Internet Explorer in Windows 10, Microsoft has closed support for plugins similar to Unity Web Player.
  • In early October, Mozilla also announced plans to discontinue support for NPAPI plugins.

Based on this situation, the authors of the engine decided that starting with Unity 5.4, whose release is scheduled for March next year, the engine will not support Unity Web Player.

The only way to generate Internet content will be to export a WebGL.
