Twitch has already established itself as an intermediary between the seller of games and the buyer, but this does not mean that it is ready to sell titles directly, according to our colleagues from re/code.
The CEO of the project, Emmett Shear, spoke about how the company will cooperate with its new owner, Amazon. According to him, despite the fact that users do not yet perceive the live stream of games as advertising, developers and publishers warmly embraced the idea.
“Our whole site is in a sense a means of direct advertising of video games,” said Shire.
Game creators want to sell as many copies of their product as possible, and Twitch meets them halfway: it does everything so that users “buy” links, Shire added. However, the site is not going to sell products directly to users. Shire says that in the near future, the usual Amazon “add to cart” function will not appear on the Twitch website.
“I think we will continue to help our partners if they want to sell games, but at the same time we don’t want to serve as an Amazon showcase,” Shire said, adding that such an undesirable turn of events would destroy what is valuable in Twitch.
When the CEO was asked to comment on Amazon’s “habit” of offering additional products based on what other users bought, he replied that he had not yet discussed this with new partners.
