The Kiev division of Crytek, which was engaged in the development and operation of Warface, announced the formation of its own company. It’s called Blackwood Games.
From the news that appeared on the official Warface website, the following is clear:
- Despite the organizational changes, the Warface team remains together. And she will continue to be responsible for Warface.
- Crytek no longer has any relation to Blackwood Games, nor, as far as can be understood from the information, to the game and the Warface brand.
- The new company is positioned as an independent studio.
Judging by the comments of both sides, the formation of the new studio took place on mutually beneficial terms. Executive Director of Crytek Avni Yerli noted that he understands the decision of the team. The head of Blackwood Games, Mikhail Khaimzon, who previously held the post of creative director of Crytek Kiev, in turn, thanked the former owner for his long-term support.
Today, Warface is one of the main assets Mail.Ru Group, which has been operating in the CIS since 2011. Since 2017, the company has also been responsible for its publication in the West. The audience of the game, which is a free-play shooter, is more than 65 million people.
