Today, on January 27, the head of the Federal Tax Service Mikhail Mishustin announced the registration of companies at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

The statement occurred in connection with the entry into force on January 1, 2017 of the law on taxation of electronic services provided by foreign companies. Including those related to the delivery of game content.

“We are talking about the fact that now from all electronic services that will be provided to Russians (respectively, on our territory), these companies pay value–added tax,” Mishustin said.

He also noted that the principle of self-assessment is applied in the administration of this tax: “We did it in the form of an electronic service. You can check online, test whether your company needs to submit an appropriate application and a special declaration for paying value-added tax on electronic services, if you provide them. This is implemented in English.”

Recall, according to the new law, foreign companies must pay 18% from the sale of digital content to residents of Russia. Companies reacted differently to this. For example, Steam has not changed the price tags. She began to deduct 18% from the payments received, respectively, she began to earn less herself and pay developers less. Apple took full payment on itself. As for Google, it shifted the costs to users, who now pay 18% more for content.
