While tablet sales revenue is falling rapidly, their sales in physical terms continue to grow, MTC reported.
MTS announced that tablet sales revenue for the second quarter of 2014 fell by 17.5% compared to the first three months of this year. Moreover, it turned out to be 2.8% less than the revenue earned by the Russian tablet market in the second quarter of 2013.
The drop in monetary terms was due to a shift in the share of sales – from iOS in favor of Android.
- iPad sales fell by 24% compared to sales a year ago (in monetary and physical terms).
- Sales of Windows-based planeshts fell by 22.8% in monetary terms, but in physical terms increased by 5.8%.
- But sales of Android tablets in money increased by 7.7% and by as much as 36.8% in pieces.
From this, we concluded that, in physical terms, the market is still growing.
The situation “for money”, in turn, is easily explained by two points.
- Apple tablets still generate the most profit. But it is quite possible that at this stage the market of expensive tablets in Russia has reached its maximum. And in the future, the tablet market as a whole will grow at the expense of the budget segment, which is dominated by Android.
- As we have written more than once, iOS-based tablets have a long service life. They are slowly becoming obsolete. This makes it pointless to update them not just every year, but even every two years.
So it’s too early to write off Apple, as well as to shout “guard”.
