Unity Technologies has started accepting applications for the Unity Awards 2017 competition for developers who create games and applications based on the Unity engine.

Projects of participants are accepted until August 10.

There will be six finalists in each nomination, the winners will be determined by voting.

The company will announce the winners on the Unity Awards website and at the Unite Austin conference, which will be held in October.

The following categories will be presented at the Unity Awards 2017:

  • Best 3D graphics
  • Best 2D graphics
  • The best game for desktop computers/consoles
  • The best mobile game
  • The best VR game
  • The best Augmented or mixed Reality
  • The best project of VizSim — visualization, modeling, training programs
  • The most cinematic project
  • Best Non-game project
  • The best student project
  • Asset Store Award for the Best Development Tool
  • Asset Store Award for Best Artistic Content
  • Unity Impact Award — games of any format (standard, VR, AR, MR and others) focused on socially significant areas – education, healthcare, etc.

The winners of all these categories will also compete for the Golden Cube — the Grand Prix of the competition, awarded for the best project made with Unity last year.

Only projects created on Unity can qualify for the nomination.

They had to be released from October 1, 2016 to August 31, 2017 to be eligible, with the exception of Student Project applications, which must have been part of the course work in the 2016-2017 academic year.
