Jim Walls, creator of the Police Quest series, has announced that his studio Jim Walls Reloaded is working on a spiritual heir to the cult police adventure game of the late 80s.
Kickstarter continues to contribute to the emergence from oblivion of figures that have long been forgotten in the industry. Last year, the developers of Space Quest showed up, collected $ 500 thousand for the SpaceVenture project and disappeared from the radar (there are still not even screenshots of the future game).
This year, the powerful figure of Jim Walls, who contributed to the birth of the Police Quest series at the end of 1987, appeared on the horizon of crowdfunding with an outstretched hand.
His new project is called Precinct, it’s a mix of action and a first-person quest. They are asking for $ 500 thousand for development. If the necessary amount can be collected in a reasonable time, then the game may appear in the second half of 2014 on PC and Mac. Moreover, in the future it is possible to release the project on iOS. At the moment, the project has received $33 thousand.
Police Quest is a series of adventure games about the difficult everyday life of a policeman from Sierra On-Line. The main game designer of the first three parts was Walls, who himself had previously worked as a policeman. At the moment, the rights to Police Quest belong to Activision.
‘Like the original Police Quest series, Precinct gives people an insight into what it means to be a police officer,” Walls said. – With the current capabilities and technologies, I will finally be able to convey the experience I’ve always wanted. I want Precinct to ignite the sensations of a classic adventure game, while captivating a new generation of gamers with a spectacular police adventure.’
The project is being done on Unity and at the moment it looks frankly scary. It would be better if the guys took up the creation of a classic hand-drawn quest.
