The American Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association of America (SFWA) will begin awarding the Nebula award in the new nomination “Best Game Scenario” in 2018.
SFWA has been in existence since 1965. Today it has more than 2,000 members. The Nebula Award is considered one of the most prestigious literary awards for authors of the fantasy genre.
The director of the association, Cat Rambo, clarified that not every scenario of a sci-fi game will be able to claim “Nebula”. For example, there should be dialogues in the story.
It is worth noting that the “Nebula” is awarded by the decision of the SFWA members, and not on the basis of a public vote.
Interestingly, the scripts for some video games have long been written by the current winners of “Nebula”.
For example, the author of “Ender’s Game” Orson Scott Card (Orson Scott Card) came up with stories for the Advent Rising and Firestorm action games. And the plot of the retro quest I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream was written by the author of the story based on the game, Harlan Ellison.
