The new blockbuster Naughty Dog for the opening weekend (June 19-21) sold 4 million copies. According to Sony, no exclusive PlayStation 4 game has ever been sold out at the start at such a rate.

For comparison:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man had 3.3 million sales in the first three days (September 7-9);
  • God of War showed 3.1 million sales for the same period six months before the release of “Spider” (April 20-22);
  • Uncharted 4 took a week to reach 2.7 million copies sold in 2016.

Now both the publisher and the developer of The Last of Us Part II thank the fans of the game. In particular, the vice president of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann (Neil Druckmann) in an address to the players said: “To hear how much response the game has caused, to watch the discussions it has generated, is incredible.”

Drakmann says these words against the background of fierce criticism of the project by part of the audience, which did not accept The Last of Us Part II because of the “left orientation” and very bold from a creative point of view plot decisions. This rejection is so great that players massively underestimate the user score of the project on Metacritic. At the time of publication of this material, it is 4.6 points.

Perhaps many of the reviews are left by those who haven’t even played The Last of Us Part II. As Forbes previously noted, the first five thousand reviews (mostly negative) were left for the game 12 hours before its release.

At the same time, the press is very supportive of the project. The average rating of journalists, according to Metacritic, is 94 points. This is higher than that of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bloodborn and Uncharted 4, but, by the way, less than that of Red Dead Redemption 2.
