Gameloft founder and CEO Michel Guillemot plans to resign due to Vivendi receiving a controlling stake in his company.
This is with reference to sources who wished to remain anonymous, Bloomberg reports. Whether this is Michel’s own desire or he was “asked” to leave is unknown. However, Vivendi has stated that it is going to keep most of the company’s directors in their places.
Recall that this week it became known that more than half of the shares of the French publisher and game developer Gameloft were in the hands of the Vivendi media group. According to TechCrunch, Vivendi had 28.2 million shares of the game developer in its hands. This is 62% of the company’s capital and 56% of the votes.
On May 31, Vivendi sent a letter to all Gameloft employees welcoming them as new members of the media group. The letter also says that the merger of companies opens up new opportunities for them, including in such areas as the creation of new content and franchises.
Last year was also not the easiest for Gameloft. In 2015, Gameloft management closed 10 studios. The reduction affected almost 20% of employees — 850 people.
