The Devil May Cry series turned 15 years old

Since 2001, the series, which appeared almost by chance, has acquired five parts, three engines (at least) and one restart, and has also replaced two generations of consoles.

• Devil May Cry (2001) is an original game that brought the cult status of the series. Initially, Capcom conceived it as Resident Evil 3. But at a certain stage it became clear that the game, the work on which was led by the author of the sequel “Resident Evil” Hideki Kamiya (Hideki Kamiya), has gone far from the “canon”. As a result, the company launched a new series.

  

• Devil May Cry 2 (2003) – today the sequel is considered the most unsuccessful game of the series. The second part suffered both from the ambitions of Capcom, who wished that there would be many times more in the sequel than in the original, and from the forced change of the project manager right in the middle of development.

  

• Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening (2005) – the third part was created on the principle of borrowing the best from the first and second parts. Today, as a rule, it is remembered in connection with the overestimated complexity of the version of the game for Europe and the USA (Japanese hard in Western versions was normal).

  

• Devil May Cry 4 (2008) is the first game in the series in which there was a departure from the gloomy style of the original to a lighter palette. From the very beginning, it was developed as a multiplatform for three platforms at once (previous games before the release of special or HD reissues were PS2 exclusives).

  

• DmC: Devil May Cry (2013) – relaunch of the series with a new developer, which was the English Ninja Theory, famous for Enslaved. Funny fact, the new team wanted to keep the appearance of the main character Dante, but Capcom insisted on his new “more youthful” appearance.

  

The total sales of all parts of the game, together with reissues and special versions, exceeded the mark of more than 10 million (sales on Steam alone are about 1.5 million).
