Swedish indie studio Simogo is tired of making games for mobile platforms and is switching to developing console titles. The company explained the decision by the complexity of supporting its products on iOS.
The founders of the studio, Simon Flesser and Magnus “Gordon” Gardebuck, admitted that they were tired of constantly updating their games just so that they would run in new versions of operating systems.
According to game designers, this work not only began to burden them, but also ceased to be profitable. Flesser and Gardback said they spent months trying to keep their titles from being removed from the app store. They could use this time to work on a new project.
“The attractiveness of mobile platforms for game developers has significantly decreased today compared to what it was a few years ago. At the same time, making games for consoles has become much easier and more convenient. If you release a mobile game, you must be ready to continuously support it, and now this puts us in a difficult position,” Simon Flesser said.
Flesser admitted that in the future the studio may return to work on games for mobile.
Simogo members have promised to officially announce their new project next year. So far, only its working name “Project Night Road” is known.
