The highest paid game dev profession is a manager. And the average salary for the industry is $1100. Such preliminary results were given by a survey of a leading analyst Wargaming.net and SteamSpy author Sergey Galenkin.
Yesterday, a survey “How much do they pay in game dev?” was launched on Sergey Galenkin’s blog. The goal, as the name implies, is to find out how much industry workers are paid on average.
The preliminary results gave the following picture: the average salary in the industry is $ 1100. The best pay is in the EC (the average po is $3000), and the worst is in Russia (the average po is $850). The highest-paid job is a manager or a representative of bizdev (median po is $1950) and the lowest-paid job is a journalist/blogger/letstplayer (average po is $500).
To date, 1,034 people have taken part in the survey, of which 874 are men and 160 are women.
Let’s add that in 2014, Galenkin conducted a similar survey in order to find out how much they get in game development in the post-Soviet space. Then the median salary was $1,600. 1,195 people took part in the 2014 survey.
A survey is available at this link, and here are the preliminary results, which are updated in real time.
Update: The first graphs have appeared showing how salaries are distributed by profession (images increase by click).
