According to eMarketer, the average adult US citizen spends 3 hours and 50 minutes in front of the TV, and uses smartphones for 3 hours and 35 minutes. Analysts are confident that smartphones will bypass TV in 2019.
Every year, US residents spend less and less time in front of the TV. In 2013, this figure was 4 hours and 30 minutes. In the same year, American adults spent an average of 2 hours and 12 minutes in front of smartphones. Every year this difference was reduced:
eMarketer data takes into account citizens over the age of 18. In the event that a person, for example, used a smartphone with the TV on, this hour was counted for both mobile devices and TV.
eMarketer believes that in the coming years, the indicator of time spent in front of mobile devices will reach its peak and growth will stop.
Firstly, new types of devices will take away time from smartphones: smart speakers, smart cars, smart clothes and virtual reality helmets. Secondly, there is a trend in society to abandon the so–called overconnected lifestyle – a lifestyle in which a person is constantly in touch and literally does not look up from the screens of their devices.
Note that many entertainment formats continue to migrate to mobile devices from more traditional media. A recent example: the appearance on Facebook of a platform for interactive game shows and quizzes like HQ Trivia and its Russian counterpart “Clover”.
