Rovio has announced the second part of the full-length cartoon The Angry Birds Movie. The sequel will be released in theaters on September 20, 2019.
The release of the film is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Angry Birds game series created by the Finnish studio Rovio.
Rovio is collaborating with Columbia Pictures in the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie.
“Rovio is preparing new stories based on our games, and we look forward to returning fans to the bright world of Angry Birds on the big screen,” said Rovi CEO Kati Levoranta.
The director of The Angry Birds Movie 2 is an American animator Thurop Van Orman, who worked on such cartoon shows as “Amazing Misadventures of Flapjack” and “Adventure Time”.
Orman will be co-directed by John Rice. He participated in the creation of the animated series “King of the Mountain” and “Rick and Morty”. Rice also did storyboards for the first part of The Angry Birds Movie and directed the short films Angry Birds Hatchlings.
The script of The Angry Birds Movie 2 will be written by Peter Ackerman, who invented the stories for the two parts of the animated film “Ice Age” and the spy series “The Americans”.
Distribution of the second part of The Angry Birds Movie will be handled by Sony Pictures.
The first The Angry Birds Movie collected $ 349 million in cinema, and another $24 million were sales of copies for home viewing with a budget of $73 million. According to rumors, the film’s marketing budget was $400 million.
