The Celestial Empire is restless again. Chinese gaming colossus Tencent has announced a new registration and identification system in Honor of Kings (aka Arena of War), the highest-grossing mobile game in the world. The company will register players by their real name, and then check their age and identity against the police database.
Honour of Kings
The company announced this today, September 6, in its official WeChat account.
The official task of the initiative: identify underage players who play under adult accounts without time limits for the session.
In other words, Tencent’s decision indicates the company’s desire to meet the government, which has been actively campaigning in recent years to combat gambling addiction in children.
The new system will be officially presented on September 15.
The news about the new registration system takes place against the background of the recently unfavorable situation with games in China. A week ago, it became known about the Party’s intention to limit the number of game releases in the country. Plus, since spring, due to the restructuring of ministries, new games in China have not received permission to release. So far, only those games that have managed to get apruv in advance are being released.
