The Walking Dead: Season 4 will be the last game made on Telltale Games’ own engine. Sources claim that the company’s new games will be made on Unity.

Also in April, a vacancy for a Unity designer for Telltale was published on LinkedIn. All previous games of the company were made on the Telltale Tool engine — 34 titles have been developed on it for 14 years.

The transition to Unity occurred at the same time as Telltale began collaborating with Netflix. The first project of the company on a new engine for itself will be the game Stranger Things, made just according to the popular franchise of the media giant.

The existing development team will need to adapt to the new engine. According to Variety, new games from Telltale will be released less frequently at first.

The company is also currently developing a sequel to The Wolf Among Us, whose release has been postponed from 2018 to 2019.

Recall that 2017 turned out to be a difficult year for Telltale — a quarter of the staff was fired, executive director Kevin Bruner left his post, who then sued the company.
