In March, users spent $8.7 billion on digital versions of games. This is 3% less than it was spent in March last year.
This was announced yesterday, April 23, by the analytical company SuperData in its monthly report.
The main driver of the fall is PC games. Their digital sales fell by a substantial 23%. However, the mobile games market has also declined, but much less significantly — by 2%.
The overall situation was partially offset by the growth in sales of digital versions of console games. They have increased by 10% compared to last year. Not least thanks to Fortnite and Apex Legends.
Speaking of Fortnite. Its monthly revenue increased by 7% compared to March last year. And this is the first comparative month that takes into account the sales of the game across all platforms (the iOS version of the Epic Games shooter just appeared in March 2018). But we should not expect serious annual growth further,” analysts are sure. The fact is that in the spring and summer of 2018, Fortnite showed peak performance, and somewhere in February, the game reached a plateau, whose level is somewhat lower.
One of the most important figures of the SuperData report is Sekiro sales. Analysts believe that the game has sold 1.4 million digital copies across all platforms. And this is a good figure, considering that in 2016 Dark Souls III from the same From Software collected 1.2 million in its debut April .
Note that the developers themselves previously mentioned that in the first ten days (from March 22 to March 31), a total of 2 million copies were sold. But this is taking into account retail sales.
