In the first days after the release, the game breaks sales records in the United States.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sold a record 3 million copies in the USA in 11 days. In Japan, the game has already sold 1.2 million copies in the first three days. This was announced by Nintendo in its press release.
For comparison:
- Sales of Mario Kart 8: Deluxe amounted to 5 million copies since April 2017;
- Sales of Super Mario Odyssey — 4.7 million copies since October of the same year;
- sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 4 million copies since March of the same year.
In addition, the Switch has become the fastest-selling console of the current generation in the United States. Since the release of Switch in March last year, 8.7 million devices have been sold.
According to NPD, this year Nintendo is the best—selling game publisher in the United States.
