After the recent announcement of the not too successful results of the 2012 financial year, Square Enix thought about how to fix the situation. According to the latest information, one of the “lifebuoys” for the company may well be the development of the mobile direction.
This was stated by Yosuke Matsuda, Senior Managing Director of Square Enix.
According to him, before Square Enix mainly released mobile remakes of old games or made “social games” based on its classic franchises, now it will actively work on creating original IP for iOS and Android. Matsuda also noted that the company is not going to develop games strictly following one monetization model. Depending on the project, it will be decided how it will be distributed: like free-to-play, paid or freemium.
What will please Square Enix’s console division next year is about clear, but what the company’s mobile developers will show is a big question
