Sony veteran Shuhei Yoshida has moved to a new position in the company. He has led a new program to support indie developers on PlayStation platforms.

Suhei Yoshida
A little background.

Since 2016, Yoshida has been the head of SIE Worldwide Studios. Today it became known that this post has passed to Herman Hulst (Hermen Hulst). He is the founder of Guerilla Games, best known for Sony exclusives such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Killzone.

Yoshida, in a new capacity, will support and equip indie developers of titles for PS. Yoshida’s team will organize all the necessary technologies and tools for them.

I am very pleased to announce Xu Yoshida as the head of this new initiative. Everyone knows how passionate Xu is about independent games, they are the lifeblood of the industry and make our portfolio so special for PS gamers. Suhey will ensure that SIE's work takes into account the interaction with independent developers.

Jim Ryan

SIE Executive Director

Ryan mentioned Yoshida’s interest in indie titles for a reason. According to VentureBeat, the new head maintains relationships with many indie studios around the world. It is these connections that he uses to replenish Sony’s portfolio with new exclusive content.

Note that the initiative led by Yoshida was launched on the eve of the release of the PlayStation 5. Sony probably wants to fill the release schedule for the first time with indie titles, just as it did immediately after the release of the PS4.
