Another cancellation due to coronavirus. Apple has abandoned the planned presentation of new smartphones. This is reported by Cult of Mac with reference to a source in the company.
Yesterday, the authorities of Santa Clara County, where Apple Park headquarters is located, banned public events of more than 1,000 people. The reason was the threat of coronavirus: 43 people have already fallen ill in the district, one of them died.
The restrictions came into force today and will be in effect until April 1. The presentation at Apple Park was rumored to take place on March 31. The “apple giant” itself did not announce it — a number of media outlets reported about it. But now, according to a Cult of Mac source at Apple, the corporation is forced to cancel the event. Because of the ban, she will not be able to hold it at the end of March, even if she wants to.
There may be another reason for cancellation, and it is also related to the coronavirus. Apple is suffering delays in the production of “two main products” due to quarantine at Chinese factories. It is not clear what products we are talking about. According to the source, it could be a new budget smartphone iPhone SE 2. It was supposed to be presented at Apple Park.
Now Apple can follow in the footsteps of Google and Facebook and make a presentation online. But it is not known when this will happen: first, the corporation must restore the supply chain.
Earlier, due to the coronavirus, I/O 2020, Cloud Next, GDC 2019 and other major IT conferences were canceled. And there is a chance that E3 will be canceled today.
