At the end of August, smartphones in Russia for the first time surpassed conventional mobile handsets in terms of the number of devices sold, Vedomosti reports with reference to the Svyaznoy, M.Video and Euroset networks.
The share of smartphones in sales reached 51% in the last two weeks of summer. In September, however, the phones won back a couple of percent. But according to the results of the fourth quarter, smartphone sales will finally exceed mobile phone figures in Russia, Michael Touch, vice president of the Svyaznoy Group, is sure. According to Viktor Lukanin, Vice President for Commerce at Euroset, the share of smartphones will exceed 55% in December.
In terms of penetration, Russia lags behind global indicators and other countries. In the world, smartphones came out on top in terms of the number of devices sold in the first quarter of this year. In China at the moment, according to Tach, 65% of the total number of mobile phones sold are smartphones (although, most likely, we are talking about industrial areas of the country).
