The private equity firm Silver Lake has invested $400 million in the developer of the Unity game engine, the California company Unity Technologies.
Funding from Silver Lake has raised the market value of Unity Technologies to $2.6 billion.
Part of the received investments will be used for payments on shares of Unity employees and early investors of the company.
A Bloomberg business publication source reports that Unity Technologies has been negotiating with several investors besides Silver Lake.
According to the company, Unity games and apps are installed on 2.4 billion devices worldwide.
According to John Riccitiello, the head of Unity Technologies, investors’ interest in the company will grow in the future due to the development of VR and AR projects. About 70% of virtual and augmented reality applications use Unity.
