Mobile developer and publisher Shoal Games from British Anguilla has acquired a license for the Moomin Trolls brand.
The deal will allow Shoal Games to create a game series for a family audience based on the Moomin franchise. They will be hosted on the Rooplay mobile platform owned by Shoal Games, designed for children’s educational games.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
“Moomin games will support our development strategy in the Nordic countries and Japan, where these characters are known and loved by millions of families. As Moomins continue to gain popularity in the world, all this is a great opportunity for Shoal Games to work with this classic brand,” said Shoal Games CEO Jason Williams.
Moomins are characters in books by Swedish writer Tove Jansson. It is reported that in 2016, the mummy troll franchise generated more than 700 million euros in retail worldwide.
