According to Kantar Worldpanel, Samsung is the manufacturer of almost half of the smartphones purchased in Europe this spring.
The share of Android in the five largest markets in Europe has increased to 70.4%. A year ago, it could boast only 61.3%, and the shares of iOS and Windows were 17.8% and 6.8%, respectively.
Android has also secured the title of the best-selling OS in the US, accounting for 52% of sales. However, in terms of sales growth rate, Android (0.1%) lags significantly behind iOS (3.5%; 41.9% market share) and Windows (0.9%; 4.6% market share) over the past year.
Dominic Sunnebo, Director of the International Consumer Research Department at Kantar Worldpanel, explains: “Android sales growth in Europe remains stable. While in the US, it is stopped thanks to Apple’s expanded distribution agreement with T-Mobile, which has the strength to promote iOS. In particular, 28% of its customers plan to purchase an iPhone.”
In the UK, Samsung competes with the reborn Sony company. Now Sony is the 4th largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the country. According to Sannebo, the key to Sony‘s success was the new Xperia Z smartphone.
Sannebo also believes that after two years of continuous growth, Samsung should focus on maintaining the loyalty of its users.
At the same time, in the markets of developing countries, Windows Phone proves that it can become a worthy receiver of extremely popular Symbian-based devices. In Mexico, Nokia Lumia 505 ranks 5th among the best-selling smartphones over the past three months.Source: www.kantarworldpanel.com
