The number of copies sold of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI has reached 5.5 million. It is significantly ahead of the sales rate of other games in the series.
This was announced by her publisher Take-Two Interactive during a briefing, PCGamesN writes. The company noted that Civilization VI still holds the sales record within the series. The circulation of the game, released in October 2016, reached one million copies sold less than a month after its release.
The publisher does not disclose whether it plans to continue supporting the sixth part of the series or has started developing the seventh. Nevertheless, there is a chance that the best-selling Civilization will receive a third major DLC. This is evidenced by a recent survey among fans about the additional content that is interesting for them.
The following is interesting. In comparison with another major IP Take-Two — Borderlands — the success of Civilization VI pales. 5.5 million copies of it were sold in three years. And the released Borderlands (the first part, the second part and the Pre-Sequel) sold 5 million copies in the last quarter alone. The sales drivers were the release of several remasters and a new DLC, not to mention the imminent release of Borderlands 3.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is a turn—based strategy game. In it, the player is asked to choose a historical leader and build a civilization from scratch. The first part of the series was released almost 30 years ago — in 1991.
