The other day, the social networks “Odnoklassniki“, “VKontakte” and “My World” summed up the results of the Games Cup 2020, a tournament between developers of HTML5 games. Out of 150 applications, the organizers selected 8 winning games. A prize fund of 2 million rubles was distributed among them.
The nominations were divided into three semantic blocks.
Veterans and newcomers
The first block included two nominations:
- the PRO nomination is intended for experienced teams that have previously released games on domestic social networks;
- New Star nomination, focused on studios that first appeared on one of the networks Mail.Ru Group.
The first one was received by the Chelyabinsk studio Z-Media for the game “Tower of Words“. This is a verbal project in which the player clears the field of cubes, making words out of them.

The second prize went to Vologda PecPoc for the Skydom project, a bright three-in-a-row, which recently became the winner of another HTML5 contest.

There were three nominations in total by genre:
- the best casual game;
- the best hyper-casual game;
- the best midcore/hardcore game.
The best casual game was recognized as “Spotlight: Escape from the Room” by Estonian Javelin. The product is a non—standard quest for social networks, in which the player searches for items, interacts with them.

The award for the best hypercausal game was given to the physical puzzle “Ho-Ball”.
This is an addictive three-dimensional game in the spirit of mobile puzzles of the early tenth. Developer — Aiplay Games.

RunOut platformer made in the style of cyberpunk was named the best in the midcore/hardcore category.

Awards in technical nominations were also awarded within the framework of the competition:
- for the best art;
- for the best screenplay;
- for the best retention.
The prize for the best art went to the Sky Clash strategy, another reading of Clash of Clans (this time in steampunk style). The project was developed by the Moscow indie studio Aivik.

A colorful Match-3 with the story “School of Design” from Tomsk developers received an award for the best script.

In the nomination “Best retention”, which was given based on how actively users return to the game at the end of the first and third days, the project “What is hidden in the photo” from an unnamed team won.

The Games Cup tournament was held for the third time.
Two years ago, the Odnoklassniki social network launched it. This time he came with the active support of VKontakte, My World and All Cups championships from Mail.ru Group.
