The story that has long been asking for the screen with the confusion around the rights to Tetris and, in fact, the circumstances of the origin of the game, it seems, will finally get a residence permit on movie screens.
That’s just at the moment it’s not even clear who will shoot it, not to mention the release dates and the name of the actor who will play the creator of “Tetris” Alexey Pajitnov.
The only thing that is known is the names of the producers – Brett Ratner, who shot such films as Rush Hour, Red Dragon and Hercules, and his partner in the general company RatPac Entertainment, James Packer, who produced Black Mass. Actually, they are currently looking for a screenwriter who is ready to write a script in the spirit of Fincher’s “Social Network”.
We hope they will succeed, because the story of “Tetris” and without literary processing today reads like a confusing thriller. What is the conflict between Nintendo, Mirrorsoft and Atari Games for the rights to the game and the clever manipulation of all of them by the company “Elektronorgtechnik”, which officially owned the rights to the game. By the way, David Scheff tells about this with interesting nuances in his book “Game Over: How Nintendo conquered the World“.
The source of the rumor is not the most reliable – The Tracking Board resource – but I do not want to doubt the unreliability of the information, and it makes no sense, because there is nothing incredible in it, given the current fashion for the adaptation of IT success stories.
