The governor of one of the central banks in the Eurozone told Reuters about the imminent disconnection of Russia from the SWIFT system.
“It’s a matter of time, a very small amount of time, days,” he said this Saturday in an interview with a journalist.
Neither the name of the speaker, nor the country whose bank he represents, is reported by the publication. The statement was announced in Paris.
SWIFT stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (community of worldwide interbank financial communications). It allows companies from different regions to transfer payments to each other quickly and safely. The system is used only at the interbank level.
What is the threat of its shutdown in Russia?
Developers will not be able to* receive money from the sale of games in the App Store, Google Play, Steam and other platforms to accounts in domestic banks. In general, it will become impossible to transfer money from abroad to Russia to both companies and people.
* Update: as explained to us, we initially made an actual mistake here. By itself, disconnecting from SWIFT will not make it impossible to receive money. In order to continue receiving them, it will be enough for the developer whose account is in a Russian bank to specify the correspondent account, if it was not specified.
However, Russia has its own analogue — the SPFS.
However, this system is not supported by most Western banks.
The shutdown may become one of the reactions of the world community to [Roskomnadzor].
