We continue to summarize the results of 2021 together with top managers and experts of the gaming industry (and related ones). Next up is an interview with Oleg Shpilchevsky, the head of the Owlcat Games studio.

How did 2021 go for the company?

Of course, the main event of this year was the release of our second project Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on PC, which took place on September 2.

Even at the stage of the Kickstarter campaign, we realized that we could count on excellent sales, but the current results already exceed our wildest expectations and we are very optimistic about the future. Moreover, we have begun to actively expand our team and have already managed to recruit several excellent specialists into the ranks of the studio, who will help us successfully work on both current and future projects.

What event or trend of 2021 do you consider central within your niche?

This year has become incredibly rich in excellent PC games from domestic teams (especially in the genre of role-playing games, among which I would like to mention the creators of Atom RPG: Trudograd, Black Book and The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante). It is very nice to see that cool projects are coming out from both big players and small new teams. I hope that this trend will continue, and we will see even more worthy games, and domestic studios will play an important role in the global game development not only within the framework of mobile development.

What will be the stake in the development of the company in 2022?

The successful launch of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to a certain extent allowed us to breathe more freely and gave us the opportunity to engage in even more ambitious projects.

Post-release support for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous in the form of patches, updates and DLC, as well as the release of the game on consoles are among the priorities.

Separately, I want to note that we are actively growing and expanding our team for future projects, the level of which requires significantly more resources (first of all, we are now looking for cool developers and artists).
