Publishers rarely share insiders. The exception is always a joy. The other day, a similar exception was made by Johan Toresson, the head of the indie publishing house Raw Fury. He stated that the company receives at least 1,500 pitches a year. He noted that this is not very much. Of this number of applications, Raw Fury usually takes less than 1% to work.

Sometimes much less. For example, in 2021, the publisher concluded deals with 0.5% of the teams that sent projects for consideration. “And this is without taking into account the projects that we find ourselves, here we are talking only about “incoming”,” Thoresson notes on Twitter. However, this number may still increase before the end of the year. But it is impossible to say this with certainty. “Applications do not arrive on schedule,” explains Johan.

Mal Duffin, co-founder of the indie studio Out of Tune Games, said that he had previously heard from publishers about such figures more than once. He believes that this ratio of pitches to signatures scares him. However, Mel hopes that these calculations, firstly, will inspire developers to polish games before shipping, and secondly, will make it easier to treat refusals from publishers.
