Qualcomm Tech Summit ended last week. Within its framework, Qualcomm announced cooperation with Niantic and PUBG Corp. The company works with each of them separately on projects in the gaming field.
Niantic
The developer of Pokémon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will use Qualcom resources to create an end-to-end AR architecture. This means various software with augmented reality and cloud functions, as well as AR headsets for games.
Qualcomm and Niantic expect to “advance the AR industry,” but for this they have to solve many tasks. One of them is the promotion of the headset, writes GameDaily.biz . According to SuperData analysts, AR glasses as a product are not yet designed for the mass user. The average consumer cannot afford Microsoft HoloLens or Magic Leap (unlike corporate customers). By the way, Qualcomm invested in the latest headset.
Also, there aren’t many games for AR glasses. But Niantic, being the author of popular augmented reality games, can change this.
Niantic glasses will also not reach the mass consumer “in the near future.” First of all, the company wants to create a “reference product” that other AR developers can adapt to their projects.
Cooperation with Qualcomm is also an opportunity for Niantic to freely study AR technologies. All software created in partnership is optimized primarily for Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 and Niantic Real World platforms.
PUBG Corp.
Qualcomm also works with PUBG authors. Their primary goal is to increase the FPS in PUBG Mobile to 90.
The companies also want to implement integration with 10-bit HDR and 144 Hz displays in mobile PUBG. This is despite the fact that there are no mobile devices with support for such displays yet.
It is unknown when these updates will appear in PUBG. Plus, they can only be intended for devices with a Snapdragon 865 processor. The first devices with the latest chip will be presented only next year.
