Singapore-based studio Lambdamu reported that its Pixel People game has gained more than 2 million downloads in three months since its release and brought $ 700 thousand to the company’s piggy bank.

According to representatives of Lambdamu, the publisher Chillingo played an important role in the success of the game. As Ivan Loo, the studio’s executive director, noted in an interview with Tech Crunch, cooperation with Chillingo helped to conduct a powerful PR campaign. This is what affected the commercial results of the game. Note that in the first two weeks of sales, Pixel People was downloaded over 1 million times.

Despite the fruitful cooperation with the American publisher, Lambdamu intends to publish its next game independently. The chief creative director of the company, Abhishek Radhakrishnan, noted on this occasion that now it will be possible to write “from the creators of Pixel People” on the splash screen. In his opinion, this will be enough to attract the Pixel People audience to the new project.

We, in turn, will add that this is not the first time when Chillingo is trying to “ride” its own developers. Someone even managed to continue a successful gaming “career” after collaborating with a casual giant (Rovio, ZeptoLab). However, today, when cross-promotion comes out on top, publishing a project without a publisher seems to be a very risky move, especially if your name (unlike the name of your game) is not promoted.
