The creators of Clicker Clicker Heroes and Clicker Heroes 2 from the Playsaurus studio faced patent trolling. GTX Corp. she accused the developers of violating the patent for the use of virtual currency. According to GTX Corp., the mechanics of virtual currency cannot be applied without their permission.
GTX Corp. I am ready to give up my claims and even sell a non-exclusive license to use virtual currencies for $35 thousand. Otherwise, the company promised to seek compensation through the court.
Studio CEO Thomas Wolfley has publicly stated that Playsaurus considers these accusations unfounded and refuses in principle to discuss the very idea of payments for an alleged violation.
“Patent US 7717838 has a long history. It was used for such blackmail 10 years ago. They demand $35 thousand from us, which is half of the annual salary of an employee of our studio. We will not pay, but I am concerned that extortionists can still get money from someone on a fictitious claim,” Wulfli said.
The head of Playsaurus added that his company has already turned to lawyers and is ready to sue GTX Corp. itself if they do not leave Playsaurus alone. Now the studio is looking for developers who are also being blackmailed by GTX Corp.
Recall, at the end of February this year, a similar accusation from GTX Corp. received one of the Russian studios-developers of mobile games. Our publication has prepared a detailed analysis of this problem.
