The studio is called Futurefly and so far has, in addition to Hakkinen, nine employees.
All of them are game dev veterans. They have jobs in Electronic Arts, Sulake, Grey Area, Microsoft and User Intelligence, and their portfolio includes projects such as Alan Wake, Habbo Hotel, Shadow Cities, Death Rally, Hero Hunt, Agents of Storm, Puzzle Bandits.
Hakkinen’s project will be focused on “non-gaming applications with gameplay elements”.
In an interview with Venturebeat, he tells how he came up with the idea of founding his own studio: “At the beginning of 2014, I had an idea that I just couldn’t give up. As a result, I put together a “garage band” of developers and tried to bring it to life in my spare time. Then everything started spinning very quickly <…>. We received funding – and fit into this amazing adventure, entered the world of startups.”
He does not name investors, but reports that the studio receives comprehensive support “both financially and from the point of view of our vision.”
Hakkinen promises that the studio’s first project will not have to wait long. It is currently under development and will be ready soon.
