AppLovin analysts assessed the demographics of mobile gamers in the US and the UK.

Most of the residents of the United States and the United Kingdom of those who play mobile games do not consider themselves gamers. This was revealed by a survey by AppLovin and Censuswide in the mentioned countries. Experts interviewed 4 thousand smartphone owners to find out their attitude to mobile titles and genre preferences.

  • Out of 4 thousand respondents, only one third consider themselves gamers. Despite this, they can consistently play mobile games 3-4 times a week.
  • 86% of smartphone owners over the age of 55 do not consider themselves gamers. But at the same time, 31% of users in this age group play mobile games every day. 14% of people of the same age have never run games on smartphones.
  • 36% of men call themselves gamers.
  • Among women, 22% consider themselves gamers.
  • Eight of the 10 most popular games in the American and British App Stores and Google Play belong to the casual genre. In 2017, there were six casual games in the top 10 most popular. The growing popularity of mobile games is obviously due to their low input threshold for the player, that is, intuitive gameplay and a free model.
  • 24% of players like casual puzzles the most. 13% of respondents have the most favorite genre — strategy.
