On the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, there are three failures for one successful video game financing campaign.

In the first half of 2017, only 179 game projects were funded on Kickstarter, while 690 titles failed to raise the required amounts.

A similar ratio of successful and failed campaigns in the video game subcategory has been maintained over the past 5 years.
Along with this, the amount of money collected by games on Kickstarter is decreasing. In the first 6 months of 2017, successful gaming companies generated $9.4 million on the platform, while in the first half of 2013 this amount was $28 million.

Game developers are moving to more specialized crowdfunding platforms, such as Fig. Among them are the studios Double Fine and inXile Entertainment, where their projects Psychonauts 2 and Wasteland 3 surpassed the results of previous Kickstarter campaigns.
