Oculus, in cooperation with the software manufacturer Otoy, announced the launch of an art competition for virtual reality. It is called Render the Metaverse and will last until July 26.
To participate, you need to create a virtual panoramic landscape using software from Otoy – OctaneVR or OctaneRender. Then upload it to the appropriate forum. There he will be evaluated by judges and other artists. The organizers of the contest say that collaboration is welcome.
The works will be judged by comic artist Alex Ross, Oculus Technical Director John Carmack and Otoy CEO Jules Ulbach.
The originality and creativity of the art, technical and visual details, as well as the overall quality of the rendering and how convenient it is for the viewer to navigate the landscape will be evaluated.
The prize fund of the contest is $ 75 thousand. The judges will award three winners monthly. The first-place participant will receive $10 thousand. $5 thousand is promised for the second place, $3 thousand for the third.
When the contest ends, the best artist will receive the grand prize – $ 25 thousand.

Note that in order to create a full-fledged work for the contest, the artist will need a Gear VR helmet and a phablet from Samsung. The fact is that you will not be able to view the art without the Oculus 360 Photo App, which, in turn, can only be launched on this headset.
