The price of Shield dropped by $50 on the way to release.
Nvidia has announced the final release date of its portable console on the Android platform: June 27, 2013. The console dropped in price even before release, and now the manufacturer’s recommended retail price is $299. Those who pre-ordered Nvidia Shield at a higher price will also pay only $299.
“Thousands of users have reported that if the price was $299, sales would be a complete success,” wrote GeForce product line manager Jenson Paul on Nvidia’s blog. “In this regard, we lower the price of Shield to $ 299. We want Shield to get into the hands of as many gamers as possible, because we believe that their reaction will be similar to the one that many gamers had before: joy.”
The Nvidia Shield console has a 5-inch touchscreen, is equipped with a 4-core Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal flash memory. It can also run games from your computer if you have an appropriate Nvidia graphics card.
