While the gaming community is discussing the PlayStation 4 announcement, waiting for April, when, according to rumors, the presentation of the new Xbox is due to take place, and wondering what the games of the eighth generation of consoles will be, Nvidia is also not wasting time.
The American manufacturer of graphics accelerators is moving to erase the difference in graphics between the current generation of consoles and mobile devices. At the Mobile World Congress currently taking place in Barcelona, Nvidia showed six projects that squeeze the most out of Tegra 4. Some of them support such serious things as dynamic lighting in real time, pixel-by-pixel shading, x16 anisotropic filtering and all this in Full HD resolution.
The most impressive game turned out to be Zombie Driver ported from consoles, whose developers from Exor Studios even presented a video that clearly shows the difference in graphics between the Tegra 4 version of the project and, presumably, Tegra 3.
Simpler projects were also presented. As many as two clones of Alien Breed: another port from the consoles Burn Zombie Burn from Tick Tock Games and Dead on Arrival 2 from N3V Games.
Korean Neowiz Games, which deals mainly with MMO, surprised with the Gothic shooter Carie: Blood Mansion.
Another Korean company, Playbean, together with Devclan, introduced a clone of Warrior called CODEX: The Warrior.
Nutgee demonstrated the difference in graphics between the old and new versions of the anime golf simulator RU Golf.
Looking at the graphics of these projects, it’s not hard to guess why Supercell believes that tablets will take the place of consoles in the not-so-distant future. Although, as it seems to us, the management issue has not yet been resolved. However, this is what the presented games demonstrate. Despite the revolutionary graphics for mobile devices, in terms of gameplay, they are not far from the first three-dimensional projects for touch devices.
As for the Tegra 4 platform itself, it is still not entirely clear whether it got the disadvantages of previous versions. One of which, we recall, is the excessive voracity of the battery.
The first devices based on Tegra 4 will appear on the market before the end of June this year.
