The American vendor announced two products under the Shield brand: a “tablet” running on Android, and a game controller for it.
A week ago, a rumor appeared on the network that Nvidia is preparing the second generation of the Shield portable console. As it turned out, the information was only partially reliable. This time the company decided to move away from the concept close to Sony and Nintendo.
Nvidia showed an 8-inch tablet based on the Tegra K1 processor. The chip of the product is not so much in the characteristics (screen resolution 1920 by 1200 pixels, 2 GB of RAM), as in the positioning. Americans promote it as “the best tablet for gamers.” Previously, a similar approach was actively used by manufacturers of desktop systems (including Alienware and Razer). Nvidia is moving their practice to the mobile market.
The company also introduced a controller for the tablet. It will not work with other Android devices.
At least three possible ways of working with the device are assumed: playing directly on the tablet, connecting the tablet to the TV and playing on it and streaming from PC to tablet (for streaming, a machine with a GTX-650 or higher video card is required).
Google Play will also have applications specially optimized for the gadget (at first there will be 11 of them).
The price of the tablet in Russia starts from 13,990 rubles, you will have to pay another 3,490 rubles for the controller.
The release of the gadget is scheduled for August
