The first joint project of Nintendo and DeNA for mobile will be monetized according to the free-to-start scheme. This is reported by the Pocketgamer resource with reference to the speech of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata for the company’s investors.

Nintendo will not use the expression “free-to-play” or “shareware game” in relation to mobile projects.
It, according to Iwata, can give players the impression that the company does not have to pay for games. Therefore, the concept of “free-to-start” or “free start” is introduced to denote the project monetization model. This means that the user will be able to download the game for free. To continue playing it, he will have to pay.
Iwata emphasizes that the projects will not be premium, that is, not those where it is enough to pay once. We are not talking about a single deposit of money, but about multiple payments. According to Iwata, premium projects “do not show very good results in the mobile market.”
The president of Nintendo did not say whether the payments will have a limit. In the Pokémon Rumble World game for 3DS, the player is limited to a bar of $ 40, it will not be possible to spend more. Perhaps the company will do the same with mobile projects.
At the end of his speech, Iwata noted that the company will release few mobile titles, but they will become “long-playing”. According to the resource Pocketgamer.biz In May, Nintendo announced that it would create 5 games by the end of 2017.
