Nintendo and DeNA will release mobile games together

Companies are going to work together on smartphone games based on the most popular Nintendo projects. There are no details yet, but it is known that the company will not port existing titles to mobile platforms.

DeNA will also launch a cross-platform service together with Nintendo. It will be available on mobile devices, on the Wii U console and on Nintendo portable consoles. The expected launch date of the service is autumn 2015.

Nintendo, in addition, promised to release a new game console, which has been assigned the working name NX. No other details have been reported yet.

As a result of the deal, Nintendo will become the holder, according to various sources, from 10% to 14% of DeNA shares. In exchange, the Japanese mobile company will receive 1.24% of Nintendo shares.

This news marks the beginning of a new era for Nintendo. Despite the fact that there are already a couple of its games on the mobile market, the company has not yet used its most famous franchises – Super Mario, Legends of Zelda or Metroid. In addition, previously, it did not allow games based on its IP to be released on anyone’s consoles other than its own.
