For the first time since 1989, Nintendo will release only one type of console at a time. The Japanese finished production of all 3DS models and focused exclusively on the Switch.
Nintendo officially confirmed the news and said: despite the fact that the company will no longer make 3DS, gamers can still buy the console and install games on it.
“We do not plan to close online services for the Nintendo 3DS family. Online games and the Nintendo eShop will continue to work, and in the foreseeable future, players will not lose access to the content they have already purchased,” said a representative of the Japanese corporation.
Nintendo also added that over the years of the console’s life, over a thousand games have been released for it, and this content will be enough for gamers for a long time. So 3DS users will not be bored even in the absence of new revisions.
However, there is now a notification on the Nintendo website that the 3DS is no longer being released.
Sales of the Nintendo 3DS started in March 2011. By June 30, 2020, players had bought 75.9 million consoles, and the total volume of software sold reached 384 million units.
