Nintendo’s retro consoles may not return to store shelves after this Christmas.

The Hollywood Reporter reported this to the publication Reggie Fils-Aime, president of the American division of Nintendo. According to him, after the current edition of these consoles is sold out in the United States, there will be no new deliveries. In the future, it will be possible to play classic titles of the company only through Nintendo Switch Online.

This summer, when the NES Classic, originally released in a limited edition, returned to sale, the company had already announced that retro consoles would remain available for sale only until the end of 2018.

The cessation of production takes place against the background of successful sales of both consoles. For example, in the USA in June of this year, the NES Classic overtook the PlayStation 4 in the number of boxes sold. In Russia, according to “M.Video”, there is also a growing demand for it now.
