Nintendo has officially unveiled a new console — the Nintendo Switch

The new device is both portable and home (hybrid) at once. As far as can be understood from the three-minute advertisement, the console, as previously reported in numerous rumors, will be modular.

The Nintendo Switch includes a docking station into which the console itself will be inserted, which is a small tablet, a gamepad, as well as a disassembled Joy-Con controller, parts of which can be used both to attach them to the tablet and to use as two independent control tools (yes, you can play together on one device).

“At home, the Nintendo Switch is located in the Nintendo Switch dock, with which the console connects to the TV, which will allow you to play with family and friends in a comfortable environment in your living room. If you remove the Nintendo Switch from the dock, the console immediately switches to portable mode, and you can take all the video games you played at home with you,” according to the announcement on the company’s website.

More than 50 companies have already announced support for the device. Among them are Activision, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, UBISOFT, Unity and many others. According to rumors, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be one of the console exclusives.

The release of the Nintendo Switch is scheduled for March 2017. The release of the expected blockbuster — The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will also appear on Switch, is scheduled for the same month. Given the latter, it seems logical to assume that the new console in terms of performance will be at the Wii U level, which will also release Breath of the Wild. The latter also had a new gameplay video yesterday.

The console itself is built on Nvidia’s Tegra solution.

Yesterday, amid the expectation of the announcement, the value of Nintendo shares jumped by 4.6%, adding more than $1 billion to the estimated value of the company.
